Aygaz Doğal Gaz was established under the name of “Koç Statoil” in 2004 as an equal partnership between Koç Holding and Norwegian Oil and Natural Gas Company StatoilHydro. The purpose of the partnership is to participate in the private sector activities within the scope of the 4646 Natural Gas Market Law and to profit from opportunities arising at home and abroad involving natural gas. In January 2009, the Koç Group made the strategic decision to have Aygaz A.Ş. acquire StatoilHydro’s shares in Koç Statoil, to position itself as a major regional energy player. Aygaz Doğal Gaz conducts sales and transportation activities in liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas (CNG).

Since the natural gas market was opened to the private sector on 1 January 2010, Aygaz Doğal Gaz has begun to conduct wholesale activities with eligible consumers directly through a pipeline.
