Mustafa V. Koç

Mustafa V. Koç, third generation member of the Koç Family was born in 1960. Graduating from Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz (Switzerland, 1980), he studied Business Administration at George Washington University (USA, 1984). Starting his professional life as a consultant at Tofaş in 1984, Mustafa V. Koç assumed the positions of Sales Manager and Assistant General Manager for Sales at Ram Dış Ticaret.

Later, in 1992, he transferred to Koç Holding to serve as the vice president and president of various groups. He became a Member of the Board of Directors in 2001, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors in 2002 and served as the Chair of Koç Holding Board of Directors from 2003 to 2016.

Mustafa V. Koç, was elected as the Chair of the Board of Directors on April 4, 2003, following in the steps of his grandfather in terms of staying close to the public, adopting honest working principles and loving his home country, and his father in terms of having a multi-dimensional and global mindset and professionalism.
On his first term, he successfully implemented the strategy of focusing on the sectors the Group has a strong presence in. In the second year of his leadership, he took very important and strategical steps that contributed to the level of success the Group has achieved today.

After this focus strategy, Mustafa V. Koç initiated the greatest organic investment era for the Group and played a leading role in drawing the path that will open the doors to new horizons for Koç Group.
Four basic principles were established for the new strategic plan designed with the vision that Turkey will take the path of sustainable growth and stability: focusing on industries the Group has competitive power in and are closer to the consumer, growing in foreign markets, being the leader in the fields of activity and strengthening the brand and the technologies.

During the 13-year term of Mustafa V. Koç, Koç Group not only widened the gap with its competitors but also managed to be listed among the business giants of the world.

 

Serving as the High Advisory Council to the Turkish Industry and Business Association from 2005 to 2010, Mustafa V. Koç worked as the Honorary Chair of High Advisory Council to TÜSIAD for the term 2011 - 2015 and became the Member and Honorary Chair of TÜSİAD Council of Chairs.

Between 2006 and 2013, Mustafa V. Koç held office as Honorary Consul for Finland, as well as being a member of the Council for Foreign Economic Affairs for the Istanbul Chamber of Industry. Additionally, he held positions in Kuwait International Bank’s Advisory Council, International Council on Foreign Affairs, and Bilderberg Meetings’ Executive Board.

In 2005 he was awarded the Cavaliere D’Industria award and in 2012 the Leonardo Award by the Italian Government.

Mustafa V. Koç was the Member of the Board of Directors of Vehbi Koç Foundation of Koç Family, a family honoured by many respectful organizations such as the World Monuments Fund, Carnegie Foundation and BNP Paribas, and Member of the Board of Trustees of Education Volunteers Foundation of Turkey (TEGV).

Mustafa V. Koç, passed away on January 21, 2016, was married with two daughters, and was fluent in both German and English.

Mustafa V. Koç was regarded as an opinion leader in the world of sports in our country in many forms, as a manager, an athlete and a supporter.

The Mustafa V. Koç Sports Award aims to ensure the sustainability of his vision, to encourage the individuals and organizations contributing to the development of our country in the world of sports, leading by example, and being a source of inspiration bringing individuals and events that may set an example to society under the spotlight.

The objective of the Award, is to honour individuals and organizations contributing to national sports, sharing the values of friendship, excellency and respect, and those who lead by example, in coordination with the National Olympic Committee of Turkey.
